简介：该片原始剧情是：为了收回美国欠下中国的债务，中国人民解放军攻入美国西海岸，而美国军民奋起反抗。改版剧情：朝鲜人民军为了打倒仇敌美国，对美国西海岸发动入侵，美国军民奋起反抗。争议2010年4月，全球华人艺术家联盟、纽约江西协进会、亚洲育才协会等美国华裔协会在联合国大厦、纽约时报广场和纽约市市政厅抗议，随后建立了网站宣传，反对种族歧视和排华思想。该片原镜头中有中国人民解放军在占领的美国地区巡逻、美国青少年高呼杀死中国人！等。纽约州华裔众议员孟昭文、全球华人艺术家联盟会长姚继成、纽约江西协进社涂灵灵，浙江总会，世界中华名医联合会等向美国联邦法院控告米高梅公司，要求禁止拍摄和上映。2011年6月29日，中国国防部发言人杨宇军就该片答问说：我们认为，他这种行为纯粹是无中生有，哗众取宠，是荒唐的，也是滑稽的。本片在拍摄时的剧本讲述中国人民解放军入侵美国的虚构剧情。本片原計劃與2010年11月14日上映，但是由於米高梅公司的经济原因，发行时间被推迟到2012年11月21日。发行方声称由于顾虑到本片在中国市场发行的难度，因此在后期制作中临时决定将中国入侵美国的剧情修改为朝鲜入侵美国，在美国媒体中引发了争议。修改的主要内容为重新制作了片头部分的虚构历史背景描写，并使用数字技术将片中出现的多处中国符号修改为朝鲜符号。实际上由于中国电影市场对国外电影引进实行严格的准入审查，本片的题材即使经过修改也没有在中国市场发行的可能性，制作方的这一修改更多是为避免刺激中国ZF及其电影审查部门，影响其旗下其他产品在中国市场的发行。由于制片方米高梅公司将中国人民解放军入侵美国改成朝鲜人民军入侵美国，导致美国媒体同批，认为此举讨好中国。美国媒体对好莱坞讨好中国刊文表达不满。为了消除该片中的中国军事元素，米高梅公司花费了100万美元，铲除片中的中国国旗、军旗等。因为其本来的内容，拍摄时很难找到华裔演员，所以片中的中国军人大多由韩裔美国人扮演。情节改变后他们扮演的角色都成了朝鲜军人。
